Hi, My name is Erin and I’m the founder of CheckMyPropertyTax.com. Like many of you, I live in a DFW neighborhood I love. My husband and I have owned a house in Dallas since 2006. Also like many of you, every spring I get a notice from the appraisal district that my taxes are going up.
I am financially savvy and determined to do things myself, but the way the whole tax protest process works has always confused and frustrated me. I’ve also always been skeptical of property tax protest firms. I noticed this week that the current advertising mailer from the largest online contingency protest firm has my personal savings estimate on it for my property, and the appraisal it has listed for my house is flat out wrong! Why should I trust a firm with my protest if they cannot get the most basic data point about me right?
I knew there had to be a better way.
In the fall of 2025, I decided to stop complaining and start building. I used AI assisted agent coding to build a prototype of the idea. My husband Mike, also an entrepreneur, helped research and improve the product. Where we’ve needed it, we’ve found local outside tech help to get us where we need to be.
The result is CheckMyPropertyTax.com.
I started this to solve a problem for me, but I’ve kept it going for my neighbors, my friends, and anyone like me around DFW who has thought about protesting on their own but not felt confident enough in the data they could pull together. We’re a low cost data utility designed to give the power back to the person who actually pays the mortgage.
